how does it work?
Hair grows from hair follicles, which are located within the skin and produce cells which eventually become strands of hair.
Typically, hair grows in cycles; going through a growth phase for 1-3 years, and then entering a resting stage of several months, where the hair strand falls out and the follicle has time to recover before growing more hair.
This is a process wherein a beam of energy is delivered to the hair follicle to render it inactive. Once this occurs, the effect is permanent, and the follicle will not enter the growth phase again.
Darker, thicker hair responds better to this treatment, because it has more pigment, and the laser can target it more effectively.
how many treatments are needed?
To achieve optimal results, it’s important to recognize that hair follicles don’t all operate on the same schedule. If they did, all humans would experience several months of complete baldness every few years. Instead, while some follicles are growing hair, others are in the resting stage. This understanding of hair growth cycles is essential, because laser hair reduction is only effective on hair that is actively growing.
This makes it vital to have multiple laser hair removal treatments approximately one month apart, to capture all follicles during their growth phase and destroy them.
Patients typically undergo 3-5 treatments, about one month apart. This helps ensure that the vast majority of follicles have been destroyed.

does it hurt?
Our providers are experts at administering the treatment in a way that minimizes any discomfort.
We carefully analyze your skin to ensure that this procedure is right for you and calibrate the laser technology to make sure that it treats the hair effectively while providing maximum comfort.
are there side effects?
Because laser hair reduction involves delivering energy waves into the skin, some redness and slight inflammation are common occurrences after treatment. In many ways, these effects are similar to a sunburn and can be easily addressed with anti inflammatory medication and ice packs on the treated area.
However, because the skin’s natural defenses against UV radiation are temporarily weakened, it’s important to stay out of the sun for several days after treatment and to use strong sunblock if you need to go out. Please keep this in mind and try to avoid scheduling your appointment right before a vacation.
downtime
There is no significant downtime associated with Laser Hair Reduction. We suggest you avoid significant sun exposure, apply your sunscreen and avoid steam rooms/saunas/jacuzzis/hot tubs/etc.
