Electronic Brachytherapy
At American Skin Institute, we offer non-surgical skin cancer treatments to provide effective care with minimal side effects. We understand the challenges of traditional treatments like radiation and Mohs surgery and have introduced less-invasive solutions. One such innovative treatment is Electronic Brachytherapy (EBX), which uses targeted x-ray radiation to remove cancer lesions without harming surrounding tissues.
This cutting-edge technology makes treatment easier physically and psychologically. During the procedure, an applicator is placed directly on the lesion, delivering x-ray bursts for a few minutes. Since the radiation levels are non-toxic, no specialized protective clothing is needed, and your provider can stay with you throughout the treatment and offer many advantages, including:
- Minimal blistering: Unlike more conventional radiation treatments, EBX causes very little (if any) blistering on the skin. This significantly increases comfort and reduces the negative psychological effect of skin cancer treatment.
- There is absolutely no pain or discomfort during treatment, and you can continue other daily activities afterwards.
- Because of the targeted approach, and EBX treatment session can be conducted in as little as 5 minutes; without you having to make special arrangements.
- As the EBX doesn’t use isotope radiation, there is very low toxicity associated with the treatment; increasing your safety and minimizing potential damage to surrounding tissues commonly feared with traditional radiation treatments.
