At American Skin Institute, we specialize in the evaluation and management of moles and birthmarks. Birthmarks can vary widely in appearance, size, and location, ranging from pigmented spots to vascular anomalies. Similarly, moles, or nevi, can differ greatly in their characteristics and potential risks.

During your consultation, our board-certified dermatologists take the time to discuss the characteristics of the mole or birthmark, potential treatment options, and any associated risks or concerns.

• For birthmarks, treatment options may include laser therapy, surgical excision, or observation depending on the type and location.
• For moles, we educate patients on the ABCDEs of melanoma detection (Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, Evolution or change over time). If a mole exhibits suspicious features, we may recommend a biopsy, a simple procedure to remove a small sample of tissue for laboratory examination.
